The Shop Tire and Service Center can replace the factory starter once it dies. This ignition part lasts approximately 100,000 miles. If you have any of the problems listed below, bring your car, SUV, or truck to our shop so we can test the starter and replace it if necessary. Without a working starter, you will not be able to get your automobile’s engine started no matter how hard you try.
Pre-Ignition Complaints
Hopefully, your starter will complain to give you a warning that it is going bad. It is common to hear a clicking or whirring noises before your engine starts if the starter is struggling to turn over the engine. In some cases, the engine will start after the starter has complained for a while. If your engine does start, drive straight to our shop because you may be left with the dead engine the next time you try to start it.
Inability to Start the Engine
An inability to start the engine is a sign that the starter is no longer working. As we mentioned above, the starter turns the engine over. What this means is that it causes the engine to pull air and fuel into the cylinders so it can produce combustion. In addition to the draw of air and fuel, the starter also sends an electrical pulse through the spark plug wires so they generate sparks. A dead starter cannot do this.
Working Vehicle Lights
At first, you may wonder if the reason why your automobile will not start is due to a dead battery. It’s common to think this because this is the most common reason why a driver ends up with a dead engine. In order to check to see if the battery is working, check to see if the lights are working. If the interior lights, the headlights, and the brake lights are all illuminated, the problem is the starter.
Hot Odors and/or Smoke
Finally, we also mentioned above that your car will not start with a dead starter no matter how many times you try. If you keep trying, however, you will start to smell hot odors in the engine and see smoke. Unfortunately, this points to the fact that you have overheated the dead starter’s motor. Rather than continue to try to start your automobile, call for roadside assistance to tow your vehicle.
