I Can’t Get My Brake Light to Turn Off

If you cannot get your Brake light to turn off, it’s possible that there is something wrong with the parking brake or the brake system. The same is true if the ABS light illuminates on your dashboard and stays on. The Shop Tire and Service Center can inspect your brakes if the ABS or Brake light is on. This is just one sign that there is a problem with the brake system. Here are other signs.

Burning Odors

If you smell burning odors coming from the brakes, they are overheating. Aside from the unpleasant odor, your brakes will also squeal if they get too hot. If the brake pads have glazed, they will smell like burning carpet. If the brake fluid is boiling, it will smell like burning chemicals. Do not drive your vehicle if the brakes are too hot as they will fail eventually.

Leaking Fluid

Your brake system also needs to be repaired if it is leaking brake fluid. Brake fluid is usually brown in color but it also comes in red. The fluid generally drips out of the brake hoses around the tires. If it is leaking out of the master cylinder, the leak will come from underneath the brake fluid reservoir in the engine. Driving with low brake fluid is also dangerous.

Pulling to the Side

The brake system also needs help if your vehicle pulls to one side when you use the brakes. This problem is usually caused by a caliper that has become stuck. We can replace the stuck caliper if we are unable to repair it.

Soft Brake Pedal

How the brake pedal feels underneath your foot should never change. Unfortunately, if the master cylinder is malfunctioning, the pedal may become soft. The pedal may also sink all the way to the floorboard or give and take if you have air bubbles in the brake lines.

Strange Noises

You should never hear strange noises coming from your brake system. If you do, it may be time to replace the brake pads or rotors. Usually, if the brake pads have worn out, the brakes will scrape or grind. They may also squeal if the pad surfaces are too low.

Wobbling/Vibration

Finally, small road debris can get stuck in the calipers and make your vehicle wobble when you use the brakes. Another thing that can cause wobbling or vibration is warped rotor surfaces.
